The diversity of their ancestral musical backgrounds has created a common bond between Statyk and
Kittie of the Florida live act, "Liquid Inzpiration." Statyk began experimenting in the musical field as
a very young child, learning many instruments, beginning with guitar and progressing into a vast arsenal
including various woodwind, brass, electronic, and percussion instruments. And, while Kittie grew up around
a very musically inclined family, it was her mother's eclectic taste that led her to become attracted to
the vocal stylings of rhythm and blues. "We spent a lot of Saturdays singing together as I was growing up.
I was also in the church choir and school chorus," Kittie recalls. "I was always very shy growing up, so I
never thought of myself as having a nice voice. It wasn't until I met Statyk that I realized I had
potential."
"When liquid form gets split, it always finds a way to rejoin, creating a homogenous substance. In the same sense, when we lose our inspiration for a while, it always seems to find us again," Statyk says on the definition of the group name. Formed in mid 2003, Liquid Inzpiration was formed as an outlet to showcase Kittie's vocals and further expand the creative process between these two artists. "Our first track took approximately nine months to complete. Getting the sounds we wanted in addition to Kittie's nervousness on the microphone made this a pretty intense process, but once it all came together, we realized that this was truly what we should be doing," Statyk comments.
Uninhibited by the concept of genre, Statyk and Kittie draw from many different musical forms. This helps them not only on stage, but in the studio as well. "The first thing that seperates us from other artists is the fact that we don't fit into any single classification. We're constantly blending the boundaries of different styles. This allows us to write songs that everyone can enjoy," he says.
Liquid Inzpiration has performed around the Tampa Bay area, also being credited with a single appearance in Buffalo, New York. "I think the 'Madman' CD release party in Buffalo was the best performance we've had to date. I get really nervous before I perform, but Statyk always has a way of getting me through it," Kittie remarks.
'Madman,' released as a CD single in 2004, was designed to be a limited pressing and received airplay on their home's local radio station, 93.3 FM FLZ for 17 consecutive weeks. It has also been featured on radio stations throughout the country. "We decided to keep the pressing limited to 40 copies because it was our first release. I believe it is the track that truly launched us as a duo," Statyk articulates.
While Kittie absorbs much of the spotlight in the group, Statyk seems unfazed by this realization. "Our set up works well. I stand in the background, play the tracks and do back-up vocals while Kittie gets the spotlight. I've accepted the painful reality that she's more fun to look at," Statyk teases.
Liquid Inzpiration is determined to appease the ears of all who listen, whether it is by music or other means. Though Statyk's mind is set on cuttin-edge music, smiles and live shows, Kittie raises the group to the next level: "We are talented in so many other things. We will not stop until we do something great."
